SBGC Aerial & Circus Program 

Here at Santa Barbara Gymnastics Club we aim to engage our students in their Zone of Proximal Development. Utilizing various evidence based practices and techniques in Aerial, Exercise Science, and Dance to create sustainable and authentic life long practices of movement, performance, composition, pedagogy and competition for our students. We believe in building and providing the physical, social, emotional, leadership, and professional development tools hat will become essential to each students practice. Offering classes in Silk, Hammock, Lyra, and specialty aperti with group, split private and private classes

Our aerial students fly high on a variety of different of equipment. Silks are being showcased to the left. We also have a lyra, hammock, trapeze, and rope!

What To Wear...
Safety
Schedule

We suggest form fitting athletic wear like leotards leggings, joggers or long sleeve athletic shirts.

Please keep in mind the following:

  • It is suggested that elbows torso and knees be covered to protect students from getting burned!

  • Avoid zippers they will tear the fabrics and press into your body causing discomfort

  • Students should wear whatever they feel comfortable moving in.

Help us protect you and our equipment, so we can all continue to have fun. PLease abide by the following:

  • If students are wearing rings or jewerly they will be asked to take them off to protect the abrics from tearing

  • Please avaoid using lotion or lubricants before class as they will rub off on the fabrics geting the equipment slippery and dirty. Students will be asked to wash hands if necessary.

Open Gym Extends for one hour after each aerial class for the students to practice their skills and bond with one another.

PROGAM TRACKS

Recreation

This is all about getting our students to have while swinging, dropping, climbing, hanging and wrapping themselves up in aerial aperiti. Students will get an introduction to silks, lyra and hammock. The main focus is engaging students to new form of movement in a safe and supportive environment. students will begin to understand and pay with the basics of aerial and acrobatics through games, obstacle courses, dance and partner exercises. Open to all levels with ongoing enrollment.

Foundation and Fitness

This is a course meant to provide students with tools for movement creation, choreographic development and opportunities to create artistic works. This is a platform for emerging choreographers and experienced alike connecting them with performers, showcase opportunities, professional development opportunities and more. Emphasizing works utilizing various aperati and forms of movement, for site specific, proscenium, or any other setting. 

Performance

This track is meant to prepare students who wish to perform commercially, at private events, for special events, or just because. Providing showcase opportunities, professional connections, and performance development in their artistic practice. Students will work on developing an act on their aperati of choices, while learning various performance and movement techniques. This class has open enrollment year round but students must be evaluated before entry into the class.

Composition

This is a course meant to provide students with tools for movement creation, choreographic development and opportunities to create artistic works. This is a platform for emerging choreographers and experienced alike connecting them with performers, showcase opportunities, professional development opportunities and more. Emphasizing works utilizing various aperati and forms of movement, for site specific, precinium, or any other setting. This course has ongoing enrollment and students must be evaluated before entering

Competition

This program is meant to prepare students for aerial competitions working on act development, musicality, flexibility and strength on a specific aperati. Students will train rigorously preparing to compete on the local, state and national level. This is open to all ages and levels, with continuous enrollment

Pedigogy

This is a program centered around teaching. Particularly how to teach but also the what and why of teaching. Focusing on teaching aerial but interweaving various forms movement, social and emotional learning and exercise science into ones pedagogical practices. Providing teacher trainings, staff trainings, curriculum development, internships, work experience and more! This program has open ongoing enrollment for any level.
